Part-Time Job Opening: Bookkeeper/Accountant

Position Overview:

This part-time position, of approximately 25 hours per week (on average), ensures that Quest Church financial records are updated timely and accurately. Financial records include donation/donor records, disbursements (including cash), accounts payable, payroll, budget(s), credit card transactions, and associated financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and annually). The Bookkeeper works directly with the Treasurer, Finance Committee, and church staff to communicate status of budget expenditures, budget requests, and expenditure approvals in accordance with church policy and general accepted accounting standards.

The Bookkeeper works with confidential information and must respect privacy and confidences of church staff, church members and the Leadership Council.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities/Functions (not an all-inclusive list):
  • Process payroll for church staff/employees and contractors, to include quarterly reporting, as required by law. Current payroll is semi-monthly.
  • Prepare and maintain payroll tax forms, including year-end W-2s.
  • Maintain accounting software (Quickbooks) to include budgeting, deposit income records, check-writing, ledger entries, transfers, etc.
  • Prepare check(s) for accounts payable timely and accurately.
  • Check routinely (at least weekly) for ledger consistency between Quickbooks and online banking records.
  • Complete deposit preparation weekly in donation management system, to include recording checks/cash and Secure Give transactions.
  • Reconcile bank statements and complete monthly auto debits for donations/offerings and online transfers.
  • Prepare and send quarterly contribution statements.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for submission to church staff and the Quest Leadership Council.
  • Complete monthly upload of credit card statements and obtain staff expense reports in Google Drive.
  • Ensure expense reports are timely and accurate and meet program requirements for allowable expenditures.
  • Support audits of accounting practices as necessary.
  • Support/Prepare annual budget draft for review and approval by Leadership Council.
  • Prepare annual “roll-forward” of designated funds and reconcile to general ledger.
  • Maintain Confidentiality of information learned and used.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor or Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Previous work in a non-profit or church setting is preferred.
  • Prior bookkeeping and/or accounting experience required.
  • Prior experience with managing payroll and associated tax requirements is required.
  • Proficiency with Quickbooks desktop or comparable accounting software/database.
  • Demonstrated understanding of generally accepted accounting standards.
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

 

Position Type and Work Schedule:
  • Salaried, part-time position with average of 25 hours per week. Normal weekly schedule is Monday through Thursday 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM to 12 Noon.
  • Evening or weekend hours will be required to support monthly meetings.
  • Position is provided annual paid time off with vacation (10 days), personal leave (4 days), and sick leave (12 days).
